The sale of the Cohen Building on Main Street has been awarded to Reneman Enterprises for $55,800 worth of goods and services.
A decision has been made in regard to the sale of the Cohen Building in downtown Grafton. The bid has been awarded to Reneman Enterprises for $55,800 worth of goods and services to the Grafton community. Included in the services is the offer of wireless Internet access to downtown and software packages that will benefit the City of Grafton, the Grafton Fire Department and the Grafton Police Department.
“This is a real interesting way of doing this,” stated Howard Ferris, Attorney for the City of Grafton. “As long as the value of the services offered are correct, this is a real good deal.”
To protect the interest of the city, a lien will be placed on the property for $55,800 in the name of Reneman Enterprises to be discharged as the services are rendered.
“It’s an opportunity for us to progress in the city,” stated Councilman Jerold P. Isner. “It puts a business on Main Street and the wireless access is going to be a great benefit to the community.”
“The usefulness of this capability is going to be greater as time goes by, as the country is producing our future leaders that are ingrained in this technology,” stated Grafton Mayor G. Thomas Bartlett, III. “We may come under criticism for ‘frontiering’ this way of doing business.”
“We are all looking forward to him (Reneman) putting a vital business in this community,” stated Vice Mayor Robert Klepfel. “What he is planning on doing with that building will be a benefit to this community.”
Council voted unanimously to award the bid. Ferris will draft an ordinance to award the deed to Reneman Enterprises upon completion of services rendered. The ordinance will have its first reading on February 17, 2009 at the regularly scheduled Grafton City Council meeting. The second reading of the ordinance will take place on March 3, 2009 at the regularly scheduled meeting.
Grafton City Manager Kevin Stead informed council that the first meeting regarding the Spirit of Grafton Celebration will be held in council chambers on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and encouraged everyone that is interested to attend. The roof has been completed on the new pavilion at Fetterman Park and the structure will soon be ready for use. Stead took time to publicly thank the employees of the Grafton Public Works Department for their dedication during recent cold weather conditions. He then informed council that another 100 tons of salt has been ordered and will be delivered to the city. The city has already used over 200 tons, and the supplier has informed Stead that this 100-ton order will be the last available for the city.
Mayor Bartlett read a proclamation declaring Monday, February 16, 2009 U.S. Presidents’ Day in the City of Grafton.
In recognition, and honor of our presidents who have led the United States of America through 233 years of our nation’s history. Through their leadership we have triumphed over adversity and rejoiced in the benefit of freedom and prosperity for all, “One Nation Under God.”
Therefore, it is appropriate that we celebrate the vision, courage, dedication, and selfless devotion to duty which our presidents have given to their country. We all benefit by the progress of our nation which is not only characterized by our notable accomplishments, but also by our commitment to preserve and protect the right of all nations to live in peace and enjoy the blessings of liberty.
Now therefore I, G. Thomas Bartlett, III, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Grafton, West Virginia, do hereby proclaim the day of Monday, February 16, 2009 as U.S. Presidents’ Day.
Resolutions were approved by the council in regard to the West Virginia Community Participation Program grants for the Grafton Municipal Pool upgrades for $12,000, general repairs to the Manos Theatre for $3,000, and Grafton City Police Department equipment purchases for $20,000.
